5、ndpeoplebelievesthatlegislativelanguageisclearandpreciseallthetime.Whileresearchfindingsafterthebirthoffuzzylinguisticsshowthat,vaguewordsorphrasescouldalsobefoundinthiskindoflanguage.Thispaperiswrittenexactlybasedonsuchfindings.Sincevaguelanguageisabigfamily.Thispaperchooseshedges,a
6、memberofthevaguelanguagefamily,astheresearchfocustomakeacontrastiveanalysisonhowtheyareusedinboththeEnglishandChineselegislativelanguages.AndthecorporainEnglishandChineseareLaborRegulationofWashingtonStateandLaborLawofPRCrespectively.Thispaperconsistsofthreeparts.Chaptersonetothreeis
7、thefirstpart,whichgivesabriefviewofthewholethesis,reviewsthepastresearchesonhedgesbothathomeandabroad,andpresentsthetheoreticframeworkforanalysis.Chaptersfourtofiveisthesecondpart,whichfirststudieswhatkindofhedgesareusedinthecorporaandtheirdistributionbasedonPrinceetal’staxonomy,then
